Southwest Fort Worth is generally considered to be banded by Interstate 35W on the east and Interstate 30 to the north. It extends south to the city limits, just north of the city of Crowley. Several large employers are headquartered around these neighborhoods, and a great variety of housing can be found here, from homes built in the 1920's to brand new construction.
Some of the neighborhoods in this area include:
Candleridge: This community was developed from the late 70's through the 80's. There are many custom homes. This master-planned neighborhood includes a 100-acre park laced with jogging and bike trails surrounding the man-made French Lake. Candleridge offers immediate access to Interstates 20 and 35. Hulen Mall is a 15 to 20 minute drive. Candleridge is now surrounded by the newer neighborhoods of Hulen Meadows, Meadow Creek, Southgate, Southpark and Summer Creek.
Cityview: Cityview encompasses the areas of Hulen Bend, Meadows West, Bellaire North, Trinity Heights, Vista Ridge and Quail Ridge. Cityview has newly constructed, upscale single-family homes. It includes Fort Worth's latest country club development, Mira Vista, the Cityview Shopping Center and Hulen Mall. Three new hospitals are part of this development, as well as several high quality retirement communities. In addition, there are several private schools offering kindergarten through high school education. As the name "Cityview" implies, there are some elevated points in this area of the city that offer views of downtown Fort Worth as well as the land to the west of the city.
Mira Vista: This is a 700 acre gated community that offers its residents 24 hour, seven day a week security. The homes here are generally custom-designed and built for the residents. All the homes are large, with sizes ranging from 2000 square feet up to 10,000 square feet or more. Many are adjacent to the Mira Vista golf course and clubhouse. Others offer exceptional elevated views, and some properties offer water views of one of three small lakes in the community. Mira Vista is a unique subdivision - the only one of its kind in Fort Worth to offer both a secure location and luxury homes.
Overton Park, Overton Woods and Willow Lake: These prestigious communities offer custom homes built from the 1970's to present. The architectural styles are typically one-story traditional homes with more than 2000 square feet - some are substantially larger. Overton Park sits on one of the higher points in the city, and many of the homes offer views. As its name implies, Overton Woods is heavily treed, and offers a shady respite to hot Texas summers. Willow Lake is a community of upscale townhomes. All the homes in these areas are close to a variety of upscale shopping options, from Hulen Mall, to Central Market, to boutiques offering unique items.
Tanglewood, Stonegate, Westcliff West and Colonial area (also Bellaire and Mockingbird Additions): This much sought after area is dominated by traditional architecture and upscale ranch style homes developed from the 1940's until today. Well-landscaped and maintained, most of these homes have been remodeled or updated over the years. This area is known for its mature trees and larger homesites. These neighborhoods are close to everything; they are within minutes of downtown Fort Worth, exclusive restaurants, TCU, shopping and excellent public and private schools. Colonial Country Club, home to an annual PGA tour event, is also nearby. The Stonegate addition is notable for its newer homes built in the traditional style and because it is a gated community.
TCU, Bluebonnet Hills, South Hills, Westcliff: This area has many charming cottages and a few larger homes. All were developed from the 1930's through the 1960's. Most of the homes offer hardwood floors and other vintage features. Many have been updated. These neighborhoods offer many of the same benefits as the neighboring additions of Westcliff West and Colonial. Some of the larger ranch-style homes in Westcliff sit on homesites of up to an acre, an unusual feature in the city.
Ridglea Country Club Estates, Mont Del: Ridglea Country Club Estates was developed from the 1970's through the 1980's. It is built around the private golf course belonging to Ridglea Country Club. (It is their second course; there is another to the north, adjacent to the main clubhouse.) These homes are mostly built in the traditional style. Some are built on large, wooded lots. Others are located on smaller lots that offer a low-maintenance alternative to the owners. Mont Del is comprised of mostly custom homes built in the 1970's.
Wedgwood: This expansive addition encompasses small ranchettes built in the 1950's, as well as traditional and contemporary homes built in the 1960's and 1970's. This area offers affordable options that are close to excellent schools and the large employers in the south part of the city. There are also several excellent youth programs based in this area of the city.
