North Fort Worth is the area north of downtown on the west and east sides of
Interstate 35W. A variety of homes can be found in this area, from the newly planned
communities around the Alliance airport to the historic neighborhoods of Northside
and Oakhurst. These neighborhoods offer easy access to downtown Fort Worth, the
Alliance business community and DFW airport. Due to the number of businesses
relocating to the city, this area has grown rapidly over the last decade.
Some of the neighborhoods in this area include:
-
Fossil Creek:
This affluent new community surrounds an Arnold Palmer designed, 18-hole golf course. Several high-technology companies are located nearby. Houses look out on a western horizon. Fossil Creek is minutes away from Interstate 35W and Loop 820. The newer homes in this area have been designed to accommodate modern lifestyles.
-
Lake Country:
Built on wide-open spaces and rolling meadows in northwest Fort Worth are Lake Country and the adjacent developments of Greenfield Acres, Jenkin Heights, Lake Country Estates and Lake Worth. The Fort Worth Nature Center is nearby.
-
Historic Northside:
This area is home to the Stockyards and the Grand Avenue National Register Historic District. The Stockyards area caters to tourists who want a taste of the city's historic heritage. Also, this well-established neighborhood has a wealth of historic homes and features some of the city's oldest schools. An active neighborhood group promotes revitalization efforts and is helping with plans to beautify North Main Street.
-
Oakhurst:
This tree-shaded neighborhood of Oakhurst is home to the city's oldest neighborhood association. Oakhurst takes its name from an oak forest and the other hardwood trees lining the banks of the Trinity River to the west of this neighborhood. Gardens abound. Most of the homes were built during the first three decades of the 1900's, with small Tudors and bungalow styles dominating. In the 1960's, several homes were built on a ridge facing the city skyline. Charleston, a subdivision of custom homes, is located adjacent to Oakhurst and blends the old with the new.
-
Park Glen:
Located in far north Fort Worth, this master-planned community of newer homes has covenants to ensure design conformity and lawn maintenance. A 100-acre park, Arcadia Trails, includes a baseball field, biking and hiking routes, nature trails playgrounds, picnic areas and tennis courts. Summerfields, another master-planned community, is nearby. Many of the subdivisions in this area have mandatory homeowners associations that manage the common amenities like swimming pools and parks.
-
Rosen Heights, Beverly Hills, Oak Grove and Worth Hills:
These areas share in a mixture of good schools, close shopping, and easy access to major highways. Marine Creek runs through the city's Buck Sansome Park, gracing these neighborhoods with hilly, wooded lots.
